Description
LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012) was known for his paintings and prints of musicians, athletes, and sporting events. He demonstrated his drawing skills as a child and, while he was drafted in 1`942 as a cook in WWII, after the war while still in the army, he designed and painted sets for Red Cross shows in Germany. Neiman’s dynamic and colorful sports drawings included working as an illustrator for the Olympics, including his 1st for the 1960 Squaw Valley winter games, then the summer games of Munich (1972), Montreal (1976), and Los Angeles (1984), and winter games in Lake Placid (1980) and Sarajevo (1984). This 1973 Serigraph is titled “Surfer” with the vast majority of the painting showing a single surfer racing across the wall of a wave. No. 246 of a Limited Edition of 300, 17.5” x 26.25”, framed, signed in pencil at the bottom lower right margin.
