***The first edition published by Frederick Warne, one of the first three printings with the leaf pattern endpapers, illustration of Mrs. MacGregor and 'Wept Big Tears' on p.51 (subsequently changed to 'Shed Big Tears'). The edition was immensely popular due to the author's illustrations and her style of writing, "It is much more satisfactory to address a real live child; I often think that was the secret of the success of Peter Rabbit, it was written to a child - not made to order." (Beatrix Potter, 1905).
