A Wonderful well used dance mask or helmet with traditional facial style, and elaborate crown, accented with mineral pigments. The Gelede festival is held annually during the beginning of every new agricultural cycle. The celebration is composed of the Efe celebration and Gelede celebration. Different masks are worn for each event. Both celebrations feature many ritualized aspects and characters in elaborate costumes, song, dance and performances. This celebration is held annually to honor and placate the powers of the female ancestors and elderly women, and deities. Yoruba peoples, Nigeria, Africa. The mask measures 11 x 11 inches. A display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00
