'Continuazione Delle Teste Scelte Di Personaggi Illustri In Lettere, E in Armi...'', printed 1762 - 1763, Rome, comprising two volumes bound together in one folio, each volume containing 36 full-page black and white engravings depicting heads of figures in the murals in the Vatican Palace stanze by Raphael (1483 - 1520) and others, also with vignettes to title pages, with later marbleized paper-covered boards and leather spine with gilt-tooled decorations, the album overall, 19'' H x 15'' W x 1.25'' D, est:$1000/2000

Condition
Provenance: Collection of a Resident of Artist Alley, Champion Place, Alhambra, CA, circa 1930s. Condition: Each page: 18.75'' x 14.25''. Dimensions of plates vary, ranging between 17.25'' x 13'' (largest) and 10'' x 7'' (smallest). Good condition overall. All 72 engravings present and untrimmed. Impressions dark and crisp. Most pages with foxing, ranging from light to heavy. A 1.25'' tear to margin of plate 22 of Vol. II, repaired with clear tape- does not affect plate. A 1'' tear to flyleaf. Plate 24 of Vol. II with a small later pencil sketch. Notes and annotations handwritten in pencil and faint brown ink to the reverse sides of plates 1, 2, and 3 of Vol. I, to the margins of plates 11 and 33 of Vol. I, and to the upper right corner of the frontispiece of Vol. II. Front endpaper inscribed by a previous owner, dated Brooklyn, 1864, and with a pasted bookplate of another previous owner: ''Ex Bibliotheca Caroli C. Vogel de Vogelstein''. Bands of oxidation to flyleaf- 1.25'' wide along bottom edge and .25'' wide along top edge. Boards and spine significantly rubbed and worn, with flaked losses to paper and to gilt decorations. Strips of damask cloth affixed along top and bottom edges of front and back boards- cloth torn and detached in places. No loose pages- stitches intact. Binding later, as stated.
