Description
Late 19th century, each ornately carved and inlaid with bone and mother-of-pearl, with seat in a geometric pattern and with splat depicting a figure in Renaissance style costume; the first incised to underside ''XIIII'', depicting a gentleman; the second incised to underside ''XI'', depicting a lady; 2 pcs, each 46.5'' H x 18.75'' W x 17'' D, est:$800/1200
Condition
Condition: Seat heights: 18.5''. Each: Inlay intact. General marks, scratches, nicks and shrinkage cracks commensurate with age and use. Scattered minor losses to carved elements and abraded losses to front edges of seats. Separation between joints, particularly between seats and stiles; would benefit from tightening. The first: the spat with a wide shrinkage crack running entire length through center and a 1''-wide crack through one side, a nicked loss to rear of one finial and a small loss to veneer of top side of seat. The second: a repair to crest with glue drips evident.
