Oil on canvas painting, an early 20th-century copy of an 1886 artwork titled Ruth and Naomi by Philip Hermogenes Calderon, 1833 to 1898, a British painter of historical genre and the Keeper of the Royal Academy in London. The original painting is now in the collection of the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, UK. The piece portrays a scene from one of the only stories in the Old Testament to focus on the strong love bond between two women, the Book of Ruth. It shows Naomi returning to her native land from Moab and trying to dissuade her two daughters-in-law, Ruth and Orpah, from accompanying her.
