Description
A pair of Louis XVI-style cane back armchairs. Oval back and shield-shaped seat with straight tapered fluted legs. The chairs have fitted seat cushions upholstered in printed chintz. Height 37", width 22", depth 22.5".
These chairs were owned by President Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy and were used in the White House West Sitting Hall during the Kennedy administration. NOTE: The third photo shows one of the chairs (left background) in the White House c.1963. They sold to the present owner as Lot 322 from Sotheby's April 23-26, 1996 auction of the Estate of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for a total of $19,550 (includes Buyer's premium of 15%). This Lot includes the page from the original Sotheby's catalogue and the results page as well as a catalogue published by Sotheby's after the auction, showing this pair of chairs.
Provenance: Robert H. Ruby Collection, Whitworth University.
