A William and Mary encasement of a Charles M. Stieff (Baltimore), Welte-Mignon reproducing Grand Piano, built to order for Hollywood director/producer Monta Bell. Original bill of sale included showing a sale price in 1928 of $3950.00 (equivalent to over $50000 in today's dollars). Serial number 43294. Measures 61" deep and 57" wide. Plays and works beautifully. Wonderful tone and sound. The case is in excellent original condition. Comes with 48 reproducing piano rolls (21 Welte-Mignon rolls).

Hollywood film pioneer, Monta Bell (1891-1958) began his career as an actor in the early 1920s, and signed with the Charlie Chaplin Film Company as a press representative in 1921. He later went to work as a director under Harry Rapf at MGM. Bell directed Greta Garbo in her first American film "Torrent". Friends with William Randolph Hearst and Marion Davies, Bell and his wife Lucille were frequent guests at the Hearst Castle Estate.
