Description
Pre-Columbian, from the North Coast of Peru, Mochica 4, ca. 400-500 CE. Unique and most important terracotta warrior figure depicted holding an elaborately decorated war club in one hand and painted shield in the other; he wears a finely painted cream colored tunic and a most impressive headdress having two roundels, jaguar head in relief with plumes as a background. His face is in a portrait style with red painted highlights on both cheeks. What makes this example so unique is that this figure has two faces - one in front, one on the back of his head! Piece has been TL Tested - a copy of the report will accompany. 11"H x 6"W.
