His studied works include historical painting, Greek mythology, portraits and other subjects. After studying in Paris and Rome, and attending Ecole des Beaux-Arts, he began to get commissions. A prize at the Salon further enhanced his reputation, and he became widely recognized, and sought after for portraits and artwork. His paintings and sculptures can be found in Mus e d'Orsay, Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, National Gallery, London, and many other institutions.
