At the age of 14 he entered the Academia de San Carlos and studied with German Gedovius and Roberto Montenegro. He later studied abroad in Paris, Italy and England. One of his early jobs was working in Los Angeles as a poster illustrator in Hollywood. He began doing paintings of Mexican children, and became well know for these perceptive images. He moved back to Mexico City where he enjoyed painting the street markets and people.
