Desktop ornament: The Coastal Landscape
Ivory, carving, on a wooden carved support.
China, second half of XX-th century.
Length: 35, 60, 55, 55 sm
Four tusks, three big and one less, represent group of products executed of an integral tusk everyone, two of which (1,2 –each 55??) – pair.
On tusks coastal landscapes with the image of one-storeyed and two-story pavilions, gate, pagodas, trees are cut out; and also the people occupied various time with prodriving. Some of them sit and, possibly, talk in pavilions; meet in collars and exchange bows, others consider rolls, the third are occupied by agricultural works, walk, one person is on horseback etc. It is a traditional kind of landscapes with figures which can be represented in the Chinese Art. As a prototype for landscapes, probably, picturesque corners and landscape dams of lake Sihu have served in Hanchzhou.
All tusks are processed and decorated by a through and volume carving in a high relief. Judging by carving technics, on an image manner, on compositions repeating on different tusks all four products are executed in one workshop, on the same drawings which details were ???????????? for carving execution on each of subjects in different sequence. Some details are cut out separately and fixed on tusks, as for example, pagodas on tusks, roofs and top of roofs on pavilions.
Wooden supports are made specially for these products thanks to what tusks are fixed, don't turn and don't fall.
Products are the decorative desktop ornaments executed from a valuable material – from an ivory.
Tusks are work of the Chinese carvers, probably, masterful Suzhous, provinces of Jiangsu, or other southern areas of China, for example, in Canton.
Masters already during earlier time created the carved bone works of art amazing with the art in old traditions.
