The girl with a flower, on a support, ivory; a tree; carving. China, the third quarter of the XX-th century. Height 203 mm, the basis 45 mm ? 40 mm.

The sculpture of the beauty served as a desktop ornament. The girl costs, slightly having deviated back. She is dressed in long to a floor a skirt, a long jacket below a knee, the jacket with free sleeves, is belted by a long wattled cord with suspension brackets and brushes, shoulders will throw with a long scarf which goes down to a floor and is fastened by the big bow. All clothes lie soft free folds. Hair are cleaned in a high hairdress with a chignon, decorated with a hairpin with the big bird-phoenix and a flower. In the bent raised hands the girl holds the big flower of a treelike peony.
The figure is executed from the big integral piece of a tusk, is masterful the plasticity of movement of the girl is transferred; the sensation of falling folds of silk clothes is created. A carving soft, volume, the image is realistic. The surface is carefully processed, polished before giving of matte shine. The sculpture is established on a carved support on legs, a dark tree in which special deepening with a side on edge is cut out, under the figure basis to give it stability.
The sculptural portraits, standing figures, images of the dancing beauties who have been cut out from an ivory, it became especially popular in China in 1950-1960th years when in workshops in Beijing revived old traditions and art of a carving on an ivory. Similar desktop ornaments have been brought on an exhibition of Applied art of the Peoples Republic of China which took place in Moscow and Leningrad in 1954-1955. Some subjects also served as gifts or they were got by the Soviet experts working in China in 1950-1960th years to a cultural revolution.
