Description
Benjamin Franklin: Sulphide Doorknob. The art of cameo encrustation ("sulphides") was very popular in the early 19th century. Most of the decorative pieces incorporating sulphides were produced in France and, to a lesser degree, England. It is very unusual to find American examples. This 1 5/8" crystal doorknob with a bust of Benjamin Franklin is attributed to Blackwell & Page, first established in 1808 as the Pittsburgh Flint Glass Manufactory. It is in excellent condition with just a few light surface scratches.
