James ‘Jimmy’ McCulloch (4 June 1953 ? 27 September 1979) was a Scottish Musician and songwriter, born in Dumbarton and raised in Clydebank and Cumbernauld Scotland, who was best known for playing lead guitar in Paul McCrtney’s Wings from 1974 to 1977. McCulloch was a member of the Glasgow psychedelic band One in A Million (formerly known as The Jaygars), Thunderclap Newman, and Stone the Crows He also made appearances on many albums including John Entwhistles Whistle Rhymes in 1972, as lead guitarist playing alongside Peter Frampton on “Apron Strings” and “I Feel Better”; and on Roy Harper’s album, Bullinamingvase, and Ricci Martin’s album, Beached, both in 1977. In 1979 he was living in a rehearsal studio in Camden Town,London and was hired to mix sound for a band called The Dukes.They used to rehearse there and over a short time he got on well with the band, In particular he got to know Jimmy McCulloch and his guitar technician Pepe. Jimmy’s previous band was Paul McCartney’s Wings . Sadly, Jimmy died the same year and His brother Jack had the task of selling off the majority of Jimmy’s equipment including his guitars. Everything was brought to the rehearsal studio It was full of collectible instruments and amplifiers. Alan’s favourite guitar in the collection was a Fender Stratocaster made for Buddy Holly with his name inlaid in Mother of Pearl but it was out of his price range. His second preference was a Gibson 345 which Jimmy had used with Wing’s recordings and live shows and which he had acquired from Paul McCartney. Alan used it on a CBS Recording with 1980’s new wave band Dekka Danse called “Waltz in the Wilderness” He also played it on Fischer Z’s album “Reveal.” He had the guitar on tour with him when he worked with the Jeff Healy Band. They played at the opening of B.B.King’s Blues Bar in Memphis and B.B. King gave Alan one of his badges. The badge is still stuck on the head of the guitar. In 2003 Alan Morrison mixed The Henry McCulloch Band in Aberdeen and he brought the guitar to the gig to let Henry see it again. Henry was also in Wings at the same time as Jimmy (no relation). Before Alan put the guitar back in the case Henry signed the back of the guitar in black pen.
