Greenland Woman - Lithograph on paper - Signed by hand in blue ink - 12 1/2 x 9 1/2. The lithograph that Kent created of this subject in 1962, is from a watercolor that he made in 1937 or the year before during a trip made to Greenland which he described in his book Salamina. This work was described in Scribner’s “American Painters Series” published in 1937 on page 32. On page 99 of the same issue (the last page), was a copy of this print. The listing on the litho “Greenland Woman” in Dan Burne-Jones' catalog of Kent’s work talks about a few color reproductions of the original watercolor. In the same year (1937) that Scribner’s published the article, they also published a portfolio of the entire series and this print might very well be from this portfolio of the “American Painters Series.” Burne-Jones talks about this portfolio on the write up on the lithograph.
