Item Details
Description
19. Black Coral Cane-19th Century-Segmented all black coral cane with a white metal ferrule. Possibly one of the rarest organic material canes, this Anglo-Colonial specimen spent all its life in a protective cabinet and is a first rate collectable. Black coral grows slowly in deep waters, and many species have long life spans. One specimen was reported by scientists to be more than 4,200 years old with a growth rate of only five micrometers per year.-H. 1 x 1, O.L. 35 -
