Description
this marvelous carrousel was made by Marklin, circa 1910, it recently surfaced in an estate sale in Phoenix, AZ and is here offered in as found condition which is astoundingly original, it retains its original cloth canopy with only very few faults (a stain, a small tear, a repaired tear) all but one of the painted tin pennants which adorn the embossed tin shields decorating the scalloped tin rounding boards which retain in strong color the floral decal decorations and the red bullion trim, riding this charming toy are 8 girls - 2 each in vis-a-vis chariots and 4 boys in sailor suits riding diminutive hide covered horses, seated around the central mirrored column are 10 additional figures watching the children pass by, all this action along with the musical accompaniment is propelled by hand when the large drive wheel with wooden crank is turned - the drive wheel is also grooved so power could be supplied by a properly placed steam engine making this the most elaborate steam accessory toy ever made; this is a true fantasy carrousel with colorful decal decoration throughout and original colored glass balls which simulate lighting additional to the two lampposts on the stair landing, a very scarce and unusual Marklin toy seldom seen in such original condition
