Description
2nd Type U.S. Army Enameled Canteen, by Dubuque Enameling Co., with straight mouthpiece widened to hold the patented Parker filter (now missing), body measures 7'' dia. by 2'' at rim, with convex body and two small iron triangles held by loops double riveted to flat rim. They were originally covered by a double layer of Petersham felt and khaki canvas. A quantity was acquired for trial in 1898. Problems involving the air vent on the Parker filter caused the first version to be rejected in favor of this 2nd Type. Dating from approx. August 1900, with blue/gray enamel and large ''U.S.'' to external body. Condition is excellent with slight nicks, scuffs and very small chipping.
