Description
A great Russian silver cane with a hound dog. The silver crook handle is about 7 1/4" along the arc and 1 1/4" at its widest point. At the far end of the handle, a 2 1/2" very nicely detailed hound god with floppy ears and a faux leather strap collar is depicted. The collar has a loop for a storage cord. There are Russian hallmarks at the base with the Moscow city mark and "84" for the silver content. (84 Zolotniks equals 875 parts per thousand of silver.) Other marks including the maker are partially worn and unreadable. The shaft is ebony with a 3/4" bright brass and iron ferrule. The overall length is 35" and the condition is very good. It is ca 1895, and it is a fine example of the kind. Estimate: $1200-$1800
