Description
Kim Taggart | Five O' Clock Shadow
Medium: Color Graphite, Charcoal
Year: Unknown
Size: 18 x 23
Signature: Yes
Although her early years' training began in charcoal, pastels Kim has been drawing since she could hold a pencil, spending time with childhood art supplies in her room.
At nine, she began her art career with private art lessons at the Mid-America Nazarene College in Olathe, Kansas.
Her teacher, James Dobson (Sr), taught her the traditional methods with oil, pastel, charcoal, and acrylic. Herfavorite was always charcoal and graphite. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kansas State University,Kim’s pursuits led her to a graphic design career in art direction and illustration in the Kansas City metro and abroad. However, in January 2017, she re-launched her art career with Extreme Graphite that she branded with herTAGG ART logo mark.
Kim’s fascination with a Midwest sky and rural scenes has invigorated her art depicting everyday subjects that inspire an emotional response in most people. Influenced by the Precisionist graphite style of Charles Sheeler, the emotional traits of Grant Wood, and the black and white contrast of Mable Dwight, her extreme graphite technique emerged as an emotional-saturation of tones. Blending and layering with water-soluble graphite, erasers, and color graphite options generate her extravagance. No tools are off the table - even using coffee grinders to fine-powder her color graphite blocks. The size of her graphites is larger than most drawings adding to their extremeness.
