Description
A LARGE TANTRIC DRUM, "DAMARU", Tibet, 19th Century. This double faced drum, known as Damaru in Tibetan is a Tantric ritual implement used for specific rituals and to summon deities. The body is made with wood and the pelting made from yak hide. The two sides of waisted body is intricately painted with figures of great yogis and masters. For reference, please see Metropolitan Museum's online exhibit with accession number "1980.354a, b". The diameter of the drum measures 27cm, Width of the drum measures 14.5cm and the length including the attached brocade measures 110cm.
