Description
A PAIR OF CHECKERED "KHADEN" RUGS, Central Tibet, Late 19th/Early 20th Century. These rugs consist of an usually dense checker board design. The checkerboard rug was traditionally used as a meditation mat and consists of a simple design of squares of off white color and a reddish brown color made with Tibetan highland wool. The off white color comes from undyed wool. 165cm x 85cm.
Condition
Overall good condition. The pile is intact but the dark reddish brown dye from the rug has bled into the undyed parts of the rug.
