His first job as a commercial artist was at Glamour Magazine. In 1961, he exhibited paintings of common household items (Campbell's Tomato Soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles)ich launched his career as a pop artist. He was also the first artist to exhibit video as an art form. In 1964 he opened his first studio, The Factory, which became a hotspot with the famous and wealthy in New York.
