Description

A RED LACQUERED CHINOISERIE LONGCASE CLOCK
France, 18th Century
A chinoiserie longcase clock with enameled face and Roman numerals is signed ""Roseray"" ""a Beauge"" on the face and surrounded by brass repousse. The arched hood with gilt, stepped open frets and turned pilasters flank the glass door with conforming frame. The case possesses an arched rectangular-shaped locking trunk door and Japanned oriental scenes on the trunk imposed on a rich red lacquer ground all raised on a stepped plinth base with bun feet.
Condition: Lacks keyes and pendulum. Age cracking to lacquer and later clock works.
91½ x 19 x 9 inches (232.4 x 48.3 x 22.9 cm).
