[Anonymous]. Extraordinary New England Album of Original Prose, Poetry, and Sketches, Circa 1826-1830. Approximately 105 pages in manuscript written in a 6 x 8-inch album. The album was published by Durrie & Peck & N. & S. S. Jocelyn of New Haven, Connecticut in 1826. The title page features a romantic vignette engraved by S. S. Jocelyn. The album is bound in three-quarter calf and marbled boards.
Contained within are numerous pages of poetry and prose, typically with romantic or religious themes, written by an unknown, albeit talented amateur. Of particular note are eleven pages featuring twenty-two humorous sketches with captions. A fair number of the cartoons deal with African-American subjects and situations. The potential for research abounds in this intriguing and historic literary find. Fine condition.
