Title: Monody on Major Andrè... To which are added letters addressed to her by Major Andrè, in the year 1769
Author: Seward, Anna
Description: [2], iv, 47, [1] pp. (4to) 25.7x21 cm. (10¼x8¼"), modern marbled wrappers. Second Edition.Signed by the author at the end of her poem, a eulogy to Major Andrè (1750 -1780) a British army officer hanged as a spy during the American War of Independence for trying to assist Benedict Arnold's attempted surrender of the fort at West Point, New York to the British. In her dedication, Miss Seward calls him a "murdered Saint... who fell a Martyr in the Cause of his King and Country..." This second edition is the same year and collation as the first edition, with the same main publisher, though additional publishers have been added to the imprint.
