Antique 18th Century Sterling Silver teapot made by Andrew Fogelberg and Stephen Gilbert. A London team of craftsman that worked together for a very short time, from 1780-1793, but were well known due to the high quality of their work. This teapot has been in one family this entire time. This teapot is an outstanding example of 18th century Sterling Silver. It is fully lined, so none of the exterior design can be seen from the inside. The interior lining is hallmarked with the London lion on the inside bottom of the teapot. The elaborate design wraps around the spout, the top knob and the entire body. The wood knob and wood handle were replaced in the late 1940's. (The previous wood handles were no longer strong enough to hold up to daily use). There is a tiny door  by the handle that flips up, allowing hot water to be poured between the two layers to keep the tea warm. There are 5 hallmarks on the bottom, including the London lion and the Folgelberg & Gilbert mark. The hinge for the lid is tight and works well. The knob on the top twists a bit. There are shields on each side. One was engraved long ago, but that has almost completely worn away. At certain angles it cannot even be seen. The other shield was never engraved. There is some slight denting where the spout connects to the body. Structurally sound. The lining is tight. Functions well as a teapot. Measures approximately 6 inches high, including the top knob. From spout tip to handle is just shy of 12 inches. Estimate $15,000-$20,000
