Description
A 19th Century Silver Asian Basket, quadruple plate from Pairpoint Silver Company. The Asian influence of this piece dates it to the 1860s, when Asian Influence was at its height. This basket showcases intricately detailed scenes of wildlife, including cranes and various other species of birds, foliage and blossoms, and spiders with webs. The side handles are made to mimic bamboo, which can be seen throughout the design. The four feet of the basket show the same ornate detailing with small flowers and symmetrical patterning. In the double circular handle perch twin birds stalking their insect prey. The stamped Maker's Mark shows: Pairpoint Mfg. Co. with the standard P in a diamond, quadruple plate 1219. The basket measures 9.5 inches square, with a basket height of 4 inches and a handle height of 13.5 inches.
