Craigie Aitchison's painting easel and chair, accompanied by the artist's painting stand and pallette, this lot also includes a selection of the artist's painting equipment. Artist's pallettes, historically, have often been of fascination. Craigie's is a puzzling example. An explanation, maybe, of its muddle is that he tended to mix his colours, if at all, on newspaper on the the floor. Often the dogs would roll in this and the sight of them padding around with striking streaks of pink, blue and scarlett became common. The chair was used througout the artist's career. It came from his parent's collection and has an appropriate almost monastic feel.
