Description
FRANK GARDNER HALE JEWELED AND ENAMELED GOLD ARTS AND CRAFTS SUITE, ca. 1920. A pendant necklace and earrings composed of a principal demantoid garnet, 1.80 cts. by formula, blue-green tourmalines and sapphires harmoniously arranged among 18k fronds in complimentary shades of blue and green guilloche enamel. Necklace: 2 3/8'' x 1 1/4'' on two 11'' chains with enameled scroll links, marked F.G. Hale. Pendant earrings, 2 1/4'' x 5/8'', marked F.G.H. 25.3 dwt. (39.3 gs.). Note: Frank Gardner Hale (1876-1945), a preeminent goldsmith, studied under C.R. Ashbee & Fred Partridge. Master and Bronze Medalist, Boston Society of Arts and Crafts; Silver Medalist at Pan Pacific Exposition of 1917, Frank Logan Prize. Singularly skilled among his peers, his work is typified by innovative and harmonious arrangements of colors and shapes, handwrought with technical perfection. A similar brooch is in the permanent collection of MFA, Boston.
