Writing in the book, Chihuly Persians, Tina Oldknow, curator at the Corning Glass Museum, comments on Chihuly's wide ranging research for this series. He studied accomplishments of his artistic ancestors from the anonymous Egyptian makers of core-formed vessels from 1500 B.C. to Louis Comfort Tiffany. Oldknow suggests a comparison with Persian gardens and carpets while acknowledging that this is not all that the works encompass. Compared to the previous work that is dense, exotic and color-saturated, this elegant basket seems weightless with an inviting diaphanous quality that reduces to two elements: white and light.
