The January offering will be a small, boutique auction comprising about 100 lots of Americana, English furniture, silver, select rugs and paintings. The auction is scheduled to take place on the 18th, the day before the Antiques Show opens in Manhattan. ?Good fortune and lucky timing," said John Nye, ?resulted in these pieces coming to auction all at the same time. We are excited about the prospect of the January auction.? One of the Seabrook Family portraits literally walked into the gallery unannounced. A few days later, the others appeared. Research and digging enabled the specialists to trace the history of the works all the way back to the original sitters and to determine an attribution to the Payne Limner. These paintings have never been offered for sale and descended in the family, from circa 1780, until the present. The Seabrook Family was New York society, New Jersey landholders and Virginia aristocracy. This is a rare opportunity to acquire unrestored 18th century portraits. The Queen Anne carved mahogany bonnet-top Philadelphia highboy, circa 1750, is from a Mountain Lakes, New Jersey private collector. They had a waterfront home filled with some choice pieces of American furniture. Now that the parents relocated to New York, they?re selling a few choice pieces including a New England chest of drawers, a card table and a pair of Federal armchairs. Other New Jersey consignments include Audubon prints, sterling silver, flat-top highboys and good paintings. The work by Charles Shreyvogel is depicts a cowboy on horseback. The view of Haying Near Sand Lake, unsigned by Joseph Hidley, but authenticated by a museum, is a special work, as is the Deer in the Woodland Scene by Richard Schmid. The Newark Museum is selling paintings approved for deaccesion
