The Charles L. Howard Collection of Early Comic Art & Original Political Illustration comprises nearly 800 Pre-WWII original illustrations by over 500 listed illustrators to be offered over several sessions and will be 90% unreserved.

Charles L. Howard, Esq. was a leading railroad industry figure between the Wars, serving as a chief officer for the Santa Fe Railroad and council to the American and Western Railway Assns. Much of this collection was exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1939 as well as elsewhere prior to 1947 and comes to auction from a descendent of the family.

The collection is encyclopedic in scope with extensive New York, Ohio, Illinois and California subjects. Just a sampling of artists to be included in the future political illustration sales include Thomas Nast, Charles Dana Gibson and Boardman Robinson while comic strips featured in this session include Tarzan, Mickey Mouse, The Phantom, Henry, Betty Boop, Felix the Cat and many, many more. Watch for exciting catalog additions during the week of August 13-17.
