Property from a Prominent Mid-West Collector which includes the contents of the John Crocker Foote Mansion in Belvidere, Illinois. John C. Foote was born and educated in the state of New York before settling in Belvidere. His successful career as a pharmacist allowed him to live an opulent lifestyle. He built his handsome mansion in the new architectural style popular to Chicago at the time. His new home was completed in 1912 at a cost of $30,000. Mr. Foote assembled a large collection of fine art and decorative furnishings throughout the home. As an avid art collector, he favored local artists such as the large Impressionistic landscape by J. Elliot Colburn, which has hung in the grand stairwell of the house since 1913.
