Hudson Valley Auctioneers' next sale is scheduled for June 26th at 5:00
The sale features several estates with a few gallery additions. Highlighted is a Rhinebeck Hudson River mansion estate held in storage for a number of years offering travel trunks including Vuitton, Grand Tour furniture and decorations led by a fine Sienna marble carving of the Ruins of the Temple of Castor and Pollux, textiles and 19th century continental furniture. A large English leaded glass window in the Romantic style and a significant Gregoire classical bronze "The Rescue of Andromeda by Perseus"in verdi gris from a Pound Ridge estate complements several other bronzes and a beautiful leaded glass window from a Mount Kisco estate. Two Somers estates contribute a nice selection MCM all in original condition with examples such as a H. Probber sofa and chair, Vladimir Kagan "Snail" table, Wendell Castle "Molar" table, Thonet style settee, an exception Guido Gambone 'lion', lots of lighting from the period and much more in both sessions. Asian items scattered throughout the sale are led by an exceptional Japanese enamel on silver box of fine quality, framed watercolors and scrolls, a 19th century Chinese inlaid console table with circular marble inserts as well as porcelains, laquerware and bronzes.
A Yonkers estate yielded excellent examples of advertising including enameled signs, a dozen vintage neons, early dental cabinet, vintage enameled lighting, ferry benches, oak barristers and files & gasoline pump globes. A very interesting letter written by Ezra Pound are offered from the Westchester estate of the late E.G. Marshall.
Garden items in the sale include wicker three piece Wakefield porch, a cement copy of an Abyssinian lion and follow an excellent group of Victorian walnut furniture from a Scarsdale estate.
An early scrimshaw sperm whale tooth engraved on one side with a portrait of Captain (David) Porter and verso the capture of the HMS Al(b)ert by the USS Essex.
