Fine Literature with Ferlinghetti & The Beats
Fine Literature with Lawrence Ferlinghetti & The Beats. A large private collection of Beat Literature and related books and ephemera, a great deal of it signed by original Beat and co-founder of the legendary City Lights Books, Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Present are many signed works by Ferlinghetti himself, including a signed first edition of City Lights' first publication, Ferlinghetti's Pictures of the Gone World, housed in a custom box. Ferlinghetti has also signed many of the important books he's published and edited over the years, including a limited facsimile edition of the original draft of Allen Ginsberg's Howl, signed by both Ginsberg and Ferlinghetti. Most other original Beats are represented as well, including signed volumes by Gary Snyder, Gregory Corso and others. Another highlight is a rare copy of the San Francisco Arts Festival Poetry Folio from 1964, with broadsides signed by both Richard Brautigan and David Meltzer. Perennial favorite Charles Bukowski is represented with a number of limited editions and an example of the famous bust sculpted by longtime girlfriend Linda King, as well as the only known sculpture by Bukowski himself. Perhaps the rarest item in the sale is one of 26 signed broadsides by the recently passed Leonard Cohen. In addition to the Beat collection, many other high points of 20th century literature are included.
